Getting Started

The Chromatic Tuner uses your device's microphone to detect pitch in real-time. It shows how sharp or flat you are from the nearest note.

  1. Click "Start Tuning" and allow microphone access
  2. Play a note on your instrument
  3. Watch the gauge - center means in tune!
  4. Adjust until the gauge is centered and green
  5. Use reference tones if you need to hear the target pitch

Tips & Tricks

Adjust A4 Reference

The tuner defaults to A4 = 440 Hz, but you can adjust this between 430-450 Hz to match orchestras or historical tunings.

Use Reference Tones

Play a reference tone to hear the target pitch. This helps train your ear and is useful for instruments without fixed pitch.

Reduce Background Noise

For best results, tune in a quiet environment. Background noise can interfere with pitch detection.

Let Notes Ring

Play a clear, sustained note for the most accurate reading. The tuner needs a moment to analyze the pitch.

Cents Explained

A cent is 1/100th of a semitone. Being within 5 cents of the target note is generally considered "in tune" for most purposes.
